15 JUN 2021

Congratulations Roads Scholarship Recipients!

Plans for graduation and award ceremonies and celebrations have been curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  However, the OAPC Roads Scholarship program continues to award $1,000 scholarships to students who demonstrate exemplary leadership within their respective programs and who express an interest in the asphalt paving industry. Scholarship recipients are selected by our partner colleges which include Algonquin, Canadore, Centennial, Conestoga, Georgian and Fleming Colleges.

Maiya Glasser, Heavy Construction Equipment Operator Program, Conestoga College

“I chose this program to gain skills that I can use in the construction industry and additionally in my military endeavours as a reservist combat engineers. I found the program very enjoyable and I learned a lot of useful skills. Being able to spend every day outdoors and learn hands-on made for a fantastic college experience. I hope to continue to work in the construction field and gain more experience and equipment time. I am thrilled and grateful to receive this award and I have put it towards supplies and school expenses.”

Tyler Patchell, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Program, Conestoga College

“To be honest, receiving recognition for my hard work means a lot to me. The money will be used for tools to get me started into the trade. I'm honored.”

Ryan Hugill, Civil Engineering Technologist Program, Georgian College

“I am honored to be a recipient of the Ontario Asphalt Pavement Council Award for Excellence. I am the first person in my family to attend college. Growing up in a single parent homes has not only posed financial and educational challenges but has also helped me become aware of the value of college education. Without the generous support of fellows such as your organization, my educational commitment would be conflicting with financial need and burden. Thank you for taking this opportunity to me achieve my goals and fight to live a prosperous and happy life!”

Nicholas Laning, Civil Engineering Technician Program, Georgian College

“I am honored to be the recipient of this award and so proud to be viewed worthy of this award and what it represents. It has been a pleasure to engage with faculty and fellow students over the last two years and I feel as though I have learned far more then I could have imagined when I decided to come back to school. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experiences that have challenged me and am looking forward to upholding and passing on the merits that this award stands for. This award was a surprise and a huge encouragement after working so hard. I truly am grateful. Thank you!”
